A HEART THAT BEATS WITH COMPASSION
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4).
In the opening scripture, the Lord Jesus wasn’t referring to people mourning out of sorrow; rather, He was speaking prophetically, using the language of the prophets. In the Old Testament, when prophets mourned, it wasn’t over personal grief. They mourned because of the state of God’s people, for example, their disobedience, captivity, or spiritual decline.
